Two lifelong journalists, but with different — and complementary — skill sets. One is the strategist. The other is the wordsmith. Combined, they give you both the insight and execution that will help you meet your communication needs.
Big Tree’s two principals are Doug Firby and Lisa Monforton, award-winning journalists who have written, edited and managed print, online and radio media over several decades. Their early careers were in the print environment, and they are both early adopters of emerging communications technologies. Both are active in social media and manage their own accounts, as well as accounts on behalf of clients.
Doug Firby focuses on strategic communications, including preparing communications plans, crisis communications, media relations, internal communications, and capacity building. He previously was Director of Communications and Marketing for the Calgary Real Estate Board and Director of Communications for the Canada West Foundation. He has taught communications at several post-secondary institutions, including Calgary’s Mount Royal University. A former editorial page editor at the Calgary Herald, his editorial writing has been honoured three times.
Lisa Monforton is a nationally known travel writer who recently won a national award from the Travel Media Association of Canada. She is Editor-in-Chief of Seekers Media, which produces year-round adventure web sites and e-newsletters. She also regularly writes and edits for CBC websites. She creates content for a broad range of clients in the real estate, travel, lifestyle, food, and health and fitness sectors.
